This year’s Fantasy Faire begins next week, and I’m proud to be one of the official bloggers for it! One of the things that they have for us to do is a series of blog challenges to get our creative juices flowing. To get ready for the Faire, I’m doing the first one today – it’s called “I Remember”. They’ve asked us to think about the past Fantasy Faires and share our favorite stories, memories, transformations, and moments. Having spent weeks of time in the Fairelands over the years that the Fantasy Faire has been held, I have far too many memories to share, but I do have a few favorites.
I’ll never forget the shotgun wedding (literally) of Alia Baroque and Clover Denzo. That whole situation never fails to make me laugh when I think about it. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Elicio Ember’s incredible plants. I’ll never forget all of the laughs that the Fantasy Faire team had on our constant 24/7 Skype calls as Faire time neared during the years I was on the organizing team. I’ll never forget the bidding war for the Gate that led to Dark Realms, nearly ending in a magical duel. I’ll never forget the first time I rode on a dragon-pulled airship. I’ll never forget the first time I saw a 50-meter-tall colossus avatar, or the first time I spoke to her.
Over the years, I have taken dozens of forms in the Fairelands. It has been somewhat traditional for me to shapeshift every day of the Faire, and while some have repeated from year-to-year, most are new to utilize the incredible creations of the merchants at the Faire. One that was worn for most of the 2011 Fantasy Faire, though, is shown in the photo above and credited down below. The 2011 Faire came at a tough time in my life. I was making my living from Second Life at the time, but I knew that that was soon coming to an end. I was living in New York City, trying to figure out what to do and where to go – in fact, a few short months later, I ended up moving to Texas and changing careers completely. To say that I was a bit depressed at the 2011 Faire would be an understatement.
Then I found Enchanted Mysts. Built by Alia Baroque, Enchanted Mysts was just what I needed at the time. It was a place of tranquility when my life was in complete turmoil. That same Faire, the Forest of Shadows sim had a hunt that rewarded you with different pieces of a satyr avatar. I quickly became a Satyr using a furset that I bought from one of the Faireland merchants, and spent most of my time sitting on a stump, looking out at the sea. From time to time, other people would stop by and sit with me. For this photo, I decided to leave that avatar exactly the way it was back then (although the asset server has apparently eaten the eyes I was wearing then, so I had to use different ones). The avatar is pre-mesh, so it looks somewhat outdated these days, but I think that most of it has stood the test of time pretty well. I haven’t found any other sims that have the exact same feel as Enchanted Mysts, but one of Alia’s sims, Athan, comes close. I’m also using another great pose from this year’s Pose Fair, which is still going on.
I can’t wait to get into the Fairelands once again, but until I do, I’ll keep remembering.
