The Necromancer’s Call

The Necromancer's Call

One of my favorite skin designers is Fallen Gods, Inc and when I saw the Nekromantia gacha at Fantasy Gacha Carnival, I immediately knew that this was the photo I wanted to take using it.  This particular skin is the Lord of the Shadows (Coal)* skin.  In addition, I’m also wearing the Deathcall tattoo in Acid*.  The clothing that I’m wewaring is also from Fantasy Gacha Carnival, created by !gO!.  The podium is from an old Apple Fall/An Lar gacha set, but all of Apple Fall’s old gacha machines are currently on sale for L$25 per pull at their main store!  Full credits are below.

The Prince Beneath the Waves

The Prince Beneath the Waves

The Fantasy Faire opened less than a week ago, and has already raised over L$4.4 million for Relay For Life, making it the highest-fundraising event of this RFL season so far!  I am proud to be an official blogger for the event, and as part of being that, they have asked us to complete a series of blog challenges or memes that tie into the event.  Today, I’m doing the Faire Folk challenge, which is to create a character from the Fairelands using mainly items from this year’s Fantasy Faire, and photograph the character in their home sim.

I chose to create a merman and photograph him in the Fairelands Junction sim.  Saiyge Lotus of Balderdash has done an incredible job of creating Fairelands Junction and turning it into an underwater masterpiece this year.  The main component of the avatar – the tail, pauldrons, and wrist guards – are actually not from this year’s Fantasy Faire.  They are part of a limited edition set that was created by Mer Betta and auctioned off at the 2011 Fantasy Faire.  A few days ago, I was shocked to receive appliers from Opal Lei, the Mer Betta creator, to use the tail with the Mesh Project body!  Their other tails at the moment do not have that – it’s a special thing for this limited edition set – but I hope to see more of their tails have that option in the future.

This year’s Faire is well-represented in the avatar, though.  Even~Tide created the body scales, Tir Na Nog created the crown, The Stringer Mausoleum created the horns and eyebrows, Wasabi Pills created the hair, and Empyrean Forge created both necklaces.  Even better, with the exception of one of the necklaces, all of these items are Relay For Life donation items, meaning that 100% of their purchase price is donated to the fight against cancer.

Fantasy Faire ends next Sunday, May 3rd.  Make sure to stop by before the Fairelands are gone for another year!

Atlas at the Gym

Atlas at the Gym 1

A couple of weeks ago, another male mesh body was released, this one more muscular than the popular Mesh Project body.  The Niramyth Aesthetic body has arrived!  There have been many other posts on other blogs detailing the body’s strengths and weaknesses – the lack of alpha cuts, the difficulty of making it worth with the default avatar head (I never got mine to look right with it, so I am wearing the included mesh head), and the lack of clothes that fit it currently compared to the excellently-sculpted chiseled physique.  Personally, I feel that The Mesh Project’s body is more “me,” but Niramyth’s body is very well-made, and I can see myself using it situationally.

To show off the body in the photo above, I’m wearing Casa Del Shai‘s mystery rare from TAG! Gacha, the spinning globe!  I think it works perfectly to turn the Niramyth body into an Atlas-like character.  Now, it is Fantasy Faire time still, so I incorporated a bit of that using the lamps and the building.  Both are from Fallen Gods, and are Relay For Life donation items.

Atlas at the Gym 2

The Niramyth body is currently lacking clothing, but one of the best things that has been made for it so far is this pair of workout shorts*, created by ..::ILLI::..!  They come with a HUD that lets you choose from 10 different colors, and then you’re also able to tint from there.  All of the decor from N4RS finished off the scene, creating a tranquil area for the Niramyth body to stay in shape.  Full credits are below!

The Tinderling

The Tinderling

Cerridwen’s Cauldron has long been known as one of Second Life’s premier creators of fantasy plants, trees, architecture, and so much more.  They recently branched out into creating avatars – the Tinderlings!  These adorable avatars come in both petite and normal avatar sizes, and they even come with a mask on a stand for you to place in your home.

The Forest Tinderling, RFL Edition * is dressed all in purple, the official color of the Relay For Life.  In the photo above, I am wearing the larger version.  In addition to the Forest Tinderling, there is also a mushroom version available, with both versions being Relay For Life donation items, meaning that 100% of their purchase price goes to the Relay For Life.

One of the incredibly cute features of the Tinderlings is their ability to fold up into a little pile of wood with a button click on their HUD.  Then, when you’re ready for them to, they jump up, like I did in the photo above.  The rest of their animations can be taken care of by any standard AO.

I photographed the Tinderling on Wildehaven Marsh, one of the Fantasy Faire sims.  Designed, built, and sponsored by rynn Verwood of Solarium, Whildehaven Marsh features a village-like setting around a central marshy area.  The quality of the build is absolutely stunning.  Make sure to visit it and the other 12 Fantasy Faire sims before the event closes on May 3rd!

Fantasy Faire Is Almost Here!

Why I RelayRelay For Life is something that I have been involved with in Second Life for many years now, on many different levels.  One of my favorite RFL events of the year is the Fantasy Faire, which opens tomorrow at 9 AM SLT!  I am proud and honored to be one of the official Fantasy Faire bloggers for this year.  Fantasy Faire has asked its bloggers to do a couple of blog challenges to help foster the community.  This post is Why I Relay.

I relay for many reasons, but the main one is that I can, while so may others can’t.  Like many of us, I’ve had people close to me who have heard the dreaded words telling them that they have cancer.  Some are still with us, but others are not.  One of my good Second Life friends was Madame Maracas.  We lost Maddie to cancer on September 8, 2010.  I have since set up a memorial park in her honor in-world, and enjoy going there to visit and see the photos of her.  I also have an aunt out in California who is currently beating the odds.  Six years ago, she was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer.  She is still with us, and actually I will get to see her and her husband next week.  I can’t wait to talk to her and see how she’s doing.

The Battlemage

The avatar that I am wearing is comprised almost entirely of items from this year’s Fantasy Faire, with many of them being Relay For Life donation items.  In addition, the gorgeous gazebo that I’m standing in is also new for the Faire, and was built by Sharni Azalee, who sponsored, designed, and built the Ichi-go Ichi-e sim at the Faire this year.  Full credits are below!  Since the Faire is not yet open, though, I’m not allowed to provide SLURLs to the sims.  I will go back through tomorrow once the sims open and add those.

Faireland Memories (Fantasy Faire Blog Challenge)

Faireland Memories

This year’s Fantasy Faire begins next week, and I’m proud to be one of the official bloggers for it!  One of the things that they have for us to do is a series of blog challenges to get our creative juices flowing.  To get ready for the Faire, I’m doing the first one today – it’s called “I Remember”.  They’ve asked us to think about the past Fantasy Faires and share our favorite stories, memories, transformations, and moments.  Having spent weeks of time in the Fairelands over the years that the Fantasy Faire has been held, I have far too many memories to share, but I do have a few favorites.

I’ll never forget the shotgun wedding (literally) of Alia Baroque and Clover Denzo.  That whole situation never fails to make me laugh when I think about it.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw Elicio Ember’s incredible plants.  I’ll never forget all of the laughs that the Fantasy Faire team had on our constant 24/7 Skype calls as Faire time neared during the years I was on the organizing team.  I’ll never forget the bidding war for the Gate that led to Dark Realms, nearly ending in a magical duel.  I’ll never forget the first time I rode on a dragon-pulled airship.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw a 50-meter-tall colossus avatar, or the first time I spoke to her.

Over the years, I have taken dozens of forms in the Fairelands.  It has been somewhat traditional for me to shapeshift every day of the Faire, and while some have repeated from year-to-year, most are new to utilize the incredible creations of the merchants at the Faire.  One that was worn for most of the 2011 Fantasy Faire, though, is shown in the photo above and credited down below.  The 2011 Faire came at a tough time in my life.  I was making my living from Second Life at the time, but I knew that that was soon coming to an end.  I was living in New York City, trying to figure out what to do and where to go – in fact, a few short months later, I ended up moving to Texas and changing careers completely.  To say that I was a bit depressed at the 2011 Faire would be an understatement.

Then I found Enchanted Mysts.  Built by Alia Baroque, Enchanted Mysts was just what I needed at the time.  It was a place of tranquility when my life was in complete turmoil.  That same Faire, the Forest of Shadows sim had a hunt that rewarded you with different pieces of a satyr avatar.  I quickly became a Satyr using a furset that I bought from one of the Faireland merchants, and spent most of my time sitting on a stump, looking out at the sea.  From time to time, other people would stop by and sit with me.  For this photo, I decided to leave that avatar exactly the way it was back then (although the asset server has apparently eaten the eyes I was wearing then, so I had to use different ones).  The avatar is pre-mesh, so it looks somewhat outdated these days, but I think that most of it has stood the test of time pretty well.  I haven’t found any other sims that have the exact same feel as Enchanted Mysts, but one of Alia’s sims, Athan, comes close.  I’m also using another great pose from this year’s Pose Fair, which is still going on.

I can’t wait to get into the Fairelands once again, but until I do, I’ll keep remembering.

O Captain

O Captain

For “The End” (which opens tomorrow), FATEplay has released this awesome clothing set – I’m wearing the jacket, pants, belt, and boots from the Max “Alt” set*.  As usual, the quality is exceptional and the pieces fit together extremely well.  I had way too much fun styling the outfit, and ended up with what looks and feels to me like a steampunk airship pirate captain.  The outfit also includes a shirt, but for this look I chose to go with just the jacket.  There is also a full version of the boots that includes texture changing options out from FATEstep at the same event, so you can match the boots to whatever you’re wearing.  The styling of this outfit includes amazing hair from Exile that is at the current round of Collabor88 and an eye patch from Body Factory that is a gift from them at The 100 Block.  The pose is a new one that is at Pose Fair now from Poseology.

For the first time in a long time, mainstream press has been publishing positive/neutral stories about Second Life lately, focused around the Remnants of Earth RP sim.  I stopped by to take this photo.  It seems like a very vibrant RP sim that could be worth a visit if that’s what you’re looking for!

Enter: The Messenger

The Messenger

Putting together fantasy avatars is something that I really love to do, so when I saw Fujin’s WindBag and Raijin’s Drums from [CX] at the Xiasumi School Festival, I knew that I had to do an avatar that incorported both of them.  Then, I saw the skirt of the Lysistrata Fantasy Costume from GizzA at The Chapter Four, and even though it was made to fit female avatars, I knew that I had to make it work for this one.  Surprisingly, the large size fit me without any changes!

I call this avatar “The Messenger” because he looks to me like a messenger who delivers news of war.  With his thunderous drums and sharp gauntlets, he can certainly get his message across.  As usual, click the photo above to see the full-size version on Flickr.

Spring Season Challenge

Click for high resolution version

Many Mondays, Strawberry Singh posts a blog challenge or meme, and since I’m a couple of years late to the party, I thought I’d go back and join in on some of the ones I’ve missed.  This one from about a year ago is the Spring Season challenge.  The photo above called “The Birth of Spring” is actually one that I posted about a week ago on Flickr, but I think it’s absolutely perfect for this.  As part of this blog challenge, Berry posted three questions to answer in addition to taking the photograph.

  1. What is the spring season like where you live?
This Spring was really non-existent.  I live in the north-western part of Texas in the United States, and our February was brutal (for us) – we had inches of ice on the road at times along with snow.  There were times that basically the whole city I live in shut down!  Then we transitioned straight to our normal May weather – mid-high 80 degree afternoon temperatures and very, very sunny.  Our typical spring doesn’t have too much rain, but it we do get thunderstorms and tornadoes.
  2. What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of spring?
New life.  Spring is when everything awakens from its winter slumber and color explodes across the ground.
  3. Which spring-themed sim in Second Life is your favorite at the moment?
I recently have been working on transitioning my private sim to spring, and I’m doing it just the way I like it, so I’d have to be biased and say that it would be my favorite.  I enjoy looking around other peoples’ spring-themed sims as well, though!

The avatar was built around the incredible skin that Fallen Gods Inc released at March’s round of We ❤ Roleplay.  Their skins are always so inspiring, and many of my wilder fantasy avatars are based around them.  The rest of the avatar pulls mostly from older items that were already in my inventory, but that complimented the skin well to enhance the overall look.  Credits for this avatar are a little bit tough to do because I tend to combine a lot of things together to create fantasy avatars, but I’ll do the best that I can.
